Aamir Khan’s son Junaid’s first love, how did he/she get his/her first film? Know all about ‘Karsandas’ here

Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan has entered the world of acting and has shown through his/her powerful acting that he/she has come to play a long innings in the industry. he/she told how he/she got the film ‘Maharaj’, why he/she chose this film and what advice he/she got from his/her father Aamir…

Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan has also followed in his/her father’s footsteps and has entered the world of acting with the film ‘Maharaj’. Junaid’s acting in this film, which reached OTT after overcoming difficulties ranging from warnings of protest to court cases, is also being appreciated. In such a situation, we had this special conversation with him/her:
If you were born in a filmy family, then it is natural for you to have an inclination towards cinema, but when did you realise that you too want to become an actor?
I was actually fond of theatre. I was 15-16 years old when I fell in love with theatre. So, I went to a theatre school in America. I have been doing theatre in India since 2017 after coming back from there, so my love has always been for theatre. Sometimes I used to get calls for films, so I used to go for auditions etc. I got ‘Maharaj’ in the same way.

Didn’t you feel it was a risk choosing a film with a sensitive subject like ‘Maharaj’ for your debut? How big a shock was it for you the way the film had to face controversies, court cases etc. before its release?

See, the subject of the film is sensitive but when I heard the story, I liked it very much. Adi Sir (producer Aditya Chopra) has been making films for so many years. I had seen Siddharth Sir’s (director Siddharth P Malhotra) last film ‘Hichki’, which I liked very much, so I did not think much. I had faith in Adi Sir, Siddharth Sir that they will make this subject with such sensitivity that no one gets hurt and I think the film has been made like that. Whoever has seen the film, I don’t think anyone felt that it is attacking anyone. As far as the journey of the film is concerned, there were some problems in the release, but in the end everything went well. Therefore, I am feeling very relieved now.

Your role in the film is quite challenging. Firstly, it is the era of the 18th century, the character of social reformer Karsandas Mulji, your dialogues are also very long. How much preparation did you have to do?

I had rehearsed for almost a year. I got a lot of time to prepare during Covid. Actually, there is not much about Karsandas Mulji’s personality in the public domain. There is a lot of his/her writings. Writers Vipul Sir, Sneha Ma’am and Siddharth Sir extracted the essence of his/her personality from the articles he/she used to write in Dada Bhai Nairoji’s paper, which helped a lot. Apart from that, we had to work on the scenes, physicality and a lot of work was required on the dance, because I am not a good dancer at all.

After ‘Maharaj’, the shooting of your second film is also going on. Tell us something about it?

I have completed a film under Aamir Khan’s banner. I am doing another film for Madhu Mantena’s production house.

You have an institution of acting in your house in the form of your father Aamir Khan, so what advice did he/she give you? Did you take any advice from him/her? What was his/her opinion about the film? he/she (father Aamir Khan) does not give advice without being asked (smiles). If you ask him/her about something specific, he/she will give you advice and very good advice, because he/she has been doing this work for 40 years but in the case of this film, he/she first heard the script once, then directly saw the film, because he/she was shooting his/her film. In between, I asked him/her once about the dance. Apart from this, our conversations at home are more on other topics. Apart from that, he/she liked the film but also when he/she watches something as an audience, he/she wants that he/she likes the thing. Apart from his/her own film, he/she likes most of the things (smiles).
