A Gujarati man was running a gambling racket in UAE, made 2 thousand crores, know how CBI got him/her back to India


New Delhi : The CBI played a key role in bringing back a fugitive who was running an international illegal gambling racket from the United Arab Emirates to India with the help of Gujarat Police. The accused was brought to India from UAE on 1 September itself. A criminal case was registered against him/her on 25 March 2023 at Madhavpura police station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Since then, he/she was wanted by the Gujarat Police.

Interpol had issued a red corner notice

CBI said that the name of the wanted person brought to India from UAE is Deepak Kumar Dhirajwal Thakkar. A red corner notice was issued against him/her. he/she could be brought to India through Interpol channels. CBI says that the accused used to run a criminal gambling racket at the international level with a special software application. From this, he/she earned more than Rs 2273 crore. Which he/she used hawala channels.

According to the CBI, he/she is wanted in Gujarat for crimes related to cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and Information Technology Act and Gambling Prevention Act. On the request of Gujarat Police, the CBI had issued a Red Corner Notice against this person from the Interpol General Secretariat on 15 December 2023. Red notices were issued to all the member countries of Interpol for the location and arrest of the accused.

After this, information about him/her was obtained by geolocating him/her in Dubai through Interpol. After this, a special team of Gujarat Police went to the United Arab Emirates through the CBI. From where the accused was successfully brought to India on 1 September.
