A fort in Madhya Pradesh where even today, Ashwatthama comes every day to worship Lord Shiva.

So this is how this fort got its name.

According to historians, the fort was built in the Ramayana period i.e. 14th century. You might be wondering how it got its name Asirgarh, then let us tell you that there is a story behind it. It is said that where Asirgarh Fort is currently located, a person named Asha Ahir had once come there, who had thousands of animals.

That person had built walls with bricks, mud and limestone to protect the animals. According to the story, it is said that in view of this the fort was named Asirgarh Fort. It is said that the kings of Chauhan dynasty ruled here for a long time.

Ashwatthama comes here

It is said that there is a unique connection between Mahabharata and the fort, one of which is Ashwatthama. Ashwatthama was the son of Guru Dronacharya, who taught the art of weapons to the Kauravas and Pandavas. After the death of his/her father, Ashwatthama was cursed by Shri Krishna to wander for ages. People believe that up to 5 thousand people were wandering in the fort. It is also said that he/she comes to worship Lord Shiva in the Gupteshwar temple located in the fort on Amavasya and Purnima days. Well, these are all people’s beliefs, although this has not been confirmed yet.

The fort is divided into three parts

The fort is divided into three parts, the upper part is Asirgarh, the middle part is Kamargarh and the lower part is Malaygarh. The fort is spread over 60 acres, there are 5 ponds in the fort, but these ponds never dry up and in any season. Let us tell you, there are also two ponds named Ganga and Yamuna here, it is said that after killing the enemies, they were thrown into these ponds. If you look from height, you will also see a temple and a mosque here. There are deep ditches around the temple, but if you look at the height, these ditches surrounded by trees look very beautiful.

Akbar had captured the fort cleverly

At that time, as the fort was becoming famous, information about this fort reached even Akbar. At that time the entire country was under the rule of Akbar. In such a situation, when Akbar came to know about the fort, he/she thought of taking it under his/her control, the information of which also reached Bahadur Shah Farooqui. At that time Asirgarh Fort was under Bahadur Shah Farooqui. When they heard about Akbar’s capture, the security of the fort was increased and food was also arranged in the fort for ten years.
In such a situation, Akbar had to stay outside the fort for 6 months, the walls here were so strong that they could not fall due to any attack. When nothing came of the planned attack, Akbar cleverly sent letters to him/her and Faruqi assuring them that he/she wanted to talk to them peacefully. Relying on this, Bahadur Shah came out of the fort. While talking to Akbar, someone attacked him/her and took him/her prisoner. In this way Akbar captured the fort on 17 January 1601 AD.
