Not the right decisions at the right time… How Rajiv Gandhi’s ‘Khas’ exposed Congress?

New Delhi: This is not the first time that questions have been raised about the role of leaders within the Congress. Even though G-23 is no longer discussed within the Congress, the questions raised by the leaders in this group are still discussed. After the defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra, Congress faces many challenges. Meanwhile, a book by senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar is currently in the center of discussion. Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has said in his/her new book that when the post of President became vacant in 2012, Pranab Mukherjee should have been handed over the reins of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA-2) government and Manmohan Singh should have been made the President. .‘The Gandhi family made a career and it ended it’
Iyer has written that if this had been done at that time, the UPA government would not have reached the point of paralysis of governance. he/she said the decision to retain Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister and send Pranab Mukherjee to Rashtrapati Bhavan ruined the UPA’s chances of forming the government for the third time. Iyer has expressed these views in his/her upcoming book A Maverick in Politics. The pain of senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar also came out that relations with the Gandhi family are no longer good. he/she has called it the irony of his/her life that it was the Gandhi family that made his/her political career and the Gandhi family also ended it.

I had the support of Rajiv Gandhi- Iyer
Iyer also said that for 10 years, he/she was not given the opportunity to meet Sonia Gandhi alone or spend any meaningful time with Rahul Gandhi, except once. In an interview to PTI, Aiyar said that he/she got everything but in the end he/she became completely isolated in the party. However, he/she said he/she was still a member of the party. he/she said I was only protected. I had the support of (former) Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. At that time I also had the support of Sonia Gandhi. But this is a very uncertain basis to be in politics. So when Sonia Gandhi got angry in 2010, that protection was withdrawn. However, it has not been completely withdrawn yet.

The distance increased after the arrival of Rahul Gandhi!
he/she said during the interview that it was a very slow decline. But this decline happened over a period of about 15 years… and then, once Rahul Gandhi came, I thought it was going to increase. Because he/she told me where he/she used to agree with me 75 percent, he/she said now I agree with you 100 percent. By asking me to remove me from my only post in the Congress, he/she proved that he/she agreed with me 100 percent. This was the post of National Convener of the Panchayati Raj Organization of the party, named after Rajiv Gandhi. After this he/she refused to meet me and the result was that today I am completely isolated. he/she said that I have not even met Priyanka except on two occasions. She talks to me on the phone, so I am in touch with her. Therefore, the irony of my life is that my political career was built by the Gandhi family and it was ended by the Gandhi family itself.

Even then questions were raised within the party
Be it the election of Congress President or the role of Rahul Gandhi, various questions have been raised within the party regarding this. Not only Iyer, many other Congress leaders have also raised many questions. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, once a veteran Congress leader, had once claimed that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were not being given proper advice. Giving an example, he/she had said that Priyanka Gandhi was sent to Uttar Pradesh without complete training. Many leaders of Punjab and Maharashtra have left the party and many allegations were also made on their behalf. This faction within the G-23 Congress was much discussed a few years ago. Most of its leaders have now left the party or are silent. Many questions were raised from their side also. (with agency input)
