There is no evidence of this… When Nirmala Sitharaman made a big claim in the Parliament by taking the names of Indira and Vajpayee

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman fiercely targeted Congress in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Sitharaman talked about removing from the records of the Lok Sabha the statement in which it was claimed that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had called Indira Gandhi Durga. The Finance Minister said that there is no evidence for this, this claim is disputed. Actually, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was being discussed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Meanwhile, BJP MP Sambit Patra, while referring to the Nagarwala incident, said that on the instructions of Indira Gandhi, Rs 60 lakh was withdrawn from the State Bank of India and given to Nagarwala. Later, Reddy Commission was formed to investigate this, in which Indira Gandhi’s name did not figure but Indira Gandhi did not get complete clearance.

What did Nirmala Sitharaman say?

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that ‘Congress leaders are praising Indira Gandhi but it is also true that people also remember Indira Gandhi for imposing emergency. Nirmala Sitharaman further said that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had once called Indira Gandhi as Durga, this is a disputed claim and there is no evidence for it, hence the issue of Durga should be removed from the records of the House.

Sambit Patra attacked fiercely

BJP MP Sambit Patra on Tuesday attacked the Congress and the opposition in the Lok Sabha by referring to the financial fraud case, Nagarwala case. he/she said, ‘I request you to read the Nagarwala case today. We are standing in Parliament and I want to bring to your attention an incident from 1971. A call came on 24 May 1971. The call was answered by Malhotra, the bank manager at the parliamentary branch of the State Bank of India, who heard the voice of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The then Prime Minister directed him/her to withdraw Rs 60 lakh.

‘A mysterious story of banking fraud’

he/she said, ‘On the instructions of Indira Gandhi, Rs 60 lakh was given to Nagarwala. The Reddy Commission was later formed to investigate the issue, although Indira Gandhi’s name was not mentioned, the Nagarwala case remains a mysterious story of banking fraud during Indira Gandhi’s time.’
