Virat has a profit of Rs 5 crore, Dhoni has a loss of Rs 8 crore, 5 big things about IPL Retention

IPL Retention 2025: The retention of IPL 2025 has proved to be a disaster. Big players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan are no longer with the teams for which they played in IPL 2024. These four have not been retained by their franchise. A player like MS Dhoni has suffered a loss of up to Rs 8 crore in the retained list. If anyone is seen in advantage in this list then it is Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Heinrich Klaasen.

All the franchises released their retained lists for IPL 2025 on Thursday 31 October. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have retained the maximum number of 6-6 players. Punjab Kings have retained only two players in their team. But in retention, the discussion is not only about who was retained, but it is also being seen that for how much, who was retained. From this, his/her position in the team can also be estimated.

1. Virat Kohli will get 21 crores
Royal Challengers Bangalore has retained three players. These three players are Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. Virat Kohli has been retained for 21 crores. Last year he/she got Rs 16 crore. In this way he/she has made a profit of Rs 5 crore.

2. Bumrah is the most expensive star of Mumbai.
Similarly, Mumbai Indians have reduced Jasprit Bumrah’s contract from Rs 12 crore to Rs 18 crore. Now Bumrah has become the most expensive player of his/her team. Mumbai Indians have retained the contract of Rohit Sharma. his/her contract has been reduced from Rs 16 crore to Rs 16.3 crore.

3. Klaasen will get 23 crores
If any player is being seen to benefit the most, it is Heinrich Klaasen. Sunrisers Hyderabad has given a contract of Rs 23 crore to Heinrich Klaasen. This is the biggest contract given to any player by any team in the current retained list.

4. Dhoni will get only Rs 4 crore
MS Dhoni was retained by Chennai Super Kings last season for Rs 12 crore. This season also he/she was retained as an uncapped player. In this way he/she got a contract of only Rs 4 crore. he/she has directly suffered a loss of Rs 8 crore. Last season, he/she received Rs 12 crore from Chennai Super Kings. According to the new rules of IPL, a maximum of Rs 4 crore can be given to an uncapped player. These uncapped players are of two types. One is those who have not played a single international match and the other are those who have retired from international cricket 5 years ago.

5. Winner and runner-up captain both out
The most interesting thing about this IPL retention is that the captains of both the teams that won the final in 2024 have been released. Despite making Kolkata Knight Riders the champion, Shreyas Iyer could not make it to the team’s retained list. The other finalist team Sunrisers Hyderabad has also not retained its captain Pat Cummins. Apart from these, Delhi Capitals have not included their captain Rishabh Pant, Lucknow Super Giants have not included KL Rahul and Royal Challengers Bangalore have not included their captain Faf du Plessis in their retained list.
