By 2047 this number may increase to 17 thousand billion. Cyber ​​security experts have expressed concern over this growing threat. he/she has stressed the need to take strong steps to deal with this problem. An NGO named Prahar has said in its report ‘The Invisible Hand’ that India urgently needs a strong and large-scale cyber security mechanism. The report says that India’s digital environment is growing rapidly. This is a good thing, but at the same time the risks are also increasing. Cyber ​​attacks on AIIMS and airlines are examples of this.

These figures are scaring

There were more than 7.9 crore cyber attacks in India in 2023. This number is 15% more than in 2022. India ranks third in terms of highest number of cyber attacks in the world. Cyber ​​attacks continue to increase in 2024. More than 500 million cyber attacks have occurred in the first quarter of 2024 alone. According to a report, cyber attacks in the second quarter of 2024 have increased by 46% compared to the same period in 2023.

Where is there greater need for cyber security?

This increase in cyber attacks shows the need for stronger cyber security measures across all industries, especially those sectors that are being targeted by cyber criminals. Globally, cyber attacks are expected to increase by 76% in the first quarter of 2024. India is among the countries most affected by this. In the first four months of 2024, Indians have lost more than Rs 1,750 crore due to cyber criminals. This information has been received from 7.4 lakh complaints registered on the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal.

What suggestions were given?

The Prahar report emphasizes the need for a well-planned, 5-year national cyber security strategy. The report also suggests that all IT-related infrastructure be brought under one organization or ministry so that it can be focused. The report also talks about the dangers posed by betting and gaming apps. These apps contain hidden, well-planned strategies.

How many types of cyber attacks?

Abhay Mishra, President of Prahar, says, ‘There are two types of cyber attacks. First, traditional hackers, who exploit vulnerabilities in systems for financial gain. The second type is related to targeting civilians. It incites people to indulge in anti-national activities through manipulation, pressure or threats. “Such tactics are most likely to be used on illegal betting apps,” he/she says.
