Do not make 4 mistakes while cleaning the conch before Diwali puja, there can be a chance of it breaking along with scratches.

Shellfish cleaning – first step

To remove dust from the conch shell, first wipe it with a dry cloth. After this wash it in hot water, which will clean the residue. Now, use a soft cloth with a little liquid soap or detergent and gently rub the shell. Rub on those places where stains or spots are visible. If there is dirt inside the conch then use a toothbrush to clean it.

Shank cleaning-second step

Now you have to cut the lemon in half, apply salt and rub the rind. This will help in polishing the conch shell. Finally, purify the conch with Kusha grass. For this, rub the conch shell with the help of Kusha grass and then wash it thoroughly with clean water. After cleaning the conch and before using it in puja, wash it with Ganga water. Keep the conch shells in an open and ventilated place to dry.

Avoid these 4 mistakes

1. Keep in mind that the conch should not be rubbed too hard, this may cause scratches on the conch.
2. Do not apply too much pressure while washing the conch, otherwise your conch may break.
3. Do not use an old or used toothbrush, because the conch is used in worship.
4. After washing the conch with water, do not scrub it vigorously, instead wipe it with a dry cloth and keep it in a ventilated place.
