From pension to bungalow, what facilities will CJI Chandrachud get after retirement from Supreme Court, know here

New Delhi: Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will retire on November 10. After that Justice Sanjeev Khanna will become the new CJI. Recently CJI Chandrachud told about his/her retirement plan. he/she said that after retirement he/she will just rest for the first few days. Let us know what facilities a CJI gets when he/she retires.

These facilities are available after retirement

According to the Union Law Ministry, even after the retirement of CJI Chandrachud, he/she will get a private security guard for the next five years. Along with this, security will be deployed 24 hours outside the house of the former CJI. Retired CJI will be provided rent free Type-7 accommodation in Delhi for 06 months. This residence has two garages and lawn. After the CJI retires, he/she will get Rs 70,000 every month as pension. Along with this, they will be given a servant and driver for life from the day of retirement.

Where did CJI complete his/her studies?

Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud holds a BA in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Did honours. After this he/she took LLB degree from Campus Law Center of Delhi University in 1982. he/she continued his/her studies and obtained LLM and Doctorate in Juridical Sciences (SJD) from Harvard Law School, USA in 1986. After completing his/her law studies, Justice Chandrachud registered his/her name with the Maharashtra Bar Council. he/she practiced law in Bombay High Court and Supreme Court and proved his/her ability.

In view of his/her extraordinary abilities, he/she was appointed Senior Advocate and Additional Solicitor General of India in 1998. On 31 October 2013, Justice Chandrachud was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Due to his/her hard work and judicial acumen, he/she was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 13 May 2016. Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud took oath as the Chief Justice of India on 9 November 2022.
