ICC Rankings: Rishabh Pant’s explosion in the rankings, leaving Virat Kohli behind


Dubai. Indian team’s wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has got the benefit of a century innings against Bangladesh and then an inning of 99 runs in the match played with New Zealand. In the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings for batsmen released on Wednesday, he/she reached the sixth position, leaving behind his/her superstar Indian teammate Virat Kohli. Yashasvi Jaiswal is the only Indian in the top 5 while captain Rohit Sharma is not even in the top 15.

Pant had scored 99 runs in the second innings of the first Test match against New Zealand, due to which he/she gained three places in the rankings. On the other hand, despite scoring 70 runs, Kohli has slipped one place to eighth position. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal remains India’s highest ranked batsman at fourth position. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has fallen two places and is joint 15th with Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne. England’s star batsman Joe Root remains at the top in the batting rankings.

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra (up 36 places to 18th) and Devon Conway (up 12 places to 36th) made big jumps in the batting rankings. his/her teammate Matt Henry (up two places to ninth) has reached the top 10 in the bowlers’ rankings. Fast bowler Will O’Rourke, who played an important role in New Zealand’s victory in Test cricket after a long time on Indian soil, has moved up two places to 39th position.

Pakistan’s spinner Noman Ali has got the advantage of taking 11 wickets in two innings against England. he/she again made his/her place in the bowling rankings at 17th position. his/her fellow spinner Sajid Khan gained 22 places and has reached 50th position. Indian fast bowling leader Jasprit Bumrah remains at the top in the rankings of bowlers. After him/her comes Ravichandran Ashwin while Ravindra Jadeja remains at seventh position as before.
