Canada’s double character, gives step-motherly treatment to Indian diplomats… What did Jaishankar say on tensions with Canada?

New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar expressed his/her views on the ongoing tension with Canada. he/she said that Canada has problems with Indian diplomats. Canada is not liking our diplomats. he/she does not treat Indian diplomats the same way he/she treats diplomats from other countries. However, not all Western countries are the same.

‘Canada does not treat Indian diplomats properly’

Speaking to NDTV, the External Affairs Minister said that Canada is treating Indian diplomats differently from the way it treats diplomats of other countries. Canada itself allows its diplomats in India to do as they please, but imposes restrictions on Indian diplomats. he/she said, ‘The Canadian issue is a general Western issue and Canada specific issue, the equations of the world are changing. The balance of power is changing around the world. In such a situation, western countries are not able to digest it.

Why did India recall the High Commissioner?

he/she asked what Canada said against our High Commissioner. Canada had asked to subject him/her to a police investigation. In such a situation, we thought it right to recall our High Commissioner. Canada has a problem with our diplomats who are trying to find out about events happening in Canada that are related to their welfare and safety.

Jaishankar said, on the other hand, Canada gives its diplomats a free hand in India, which is completely different from the restrictions they impose on diplomats in Canada. “Canadian diplomats have no problem meeting with our military or police officers and profiling people to prevent them from entering Canada,” he/she said.
