The names of the holy rivers we are talking about are Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Indus, Narmada, Godavari and Kaveri. Each of these sacred rivers has its own unique significance in Hinduism and has many mythological stories. These 7 rivers are also known as ‘Saptanadi’.

It is also the home of the river goddess Ganga, who descended on earth to purify the cursed souls of King Bhagiratha’s ancestors.

Historically, the Indus Valley Civilization is believed to have developed on the banks of this river. At number seven is the Kaveri river which flows through the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
