Change cannot be brought about by merely raising slogans, Mallikarjun Kharge said- girls should get equal opportunities for leadership

New Delhi : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said girls should get equal opportunity to lead and should also be included in the decision-making process. Kharge stressed that mere sloganeering cannot bring about real change. Gender equality and justice are essential to achieve social, political and economic development, she said in a post on social media platform ‘X’ on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.

Girls should be at the forefront of change

Kharge said this year’s theme is ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future’, which expresses the need for urgent action and continued hope on the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future. The Congress President said that we have to ensure that girls get equal opportunities for leadership by placing them at the forefront of change, amplifying their voices, keeping their needs in mind and including them in the decision-making process.

There is no real change by raising slogans.

Kharge said it is important to listen to girls and invest in proven solutions that will accelerate future progress and enable every girl to fulfill her potential. On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to celebrate October 11 as International Day of the Girl Child to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face around the world.

International Day of the Girl Child aims to address the challenges faced by girls and focus on their empowerment and fulfillment of human rights.
