Allegations of EVM tampering are baseless, there is no relation between battery capacity and results… Election Commission gave answers to every question.

New Delhi: Election Commission sources on Tuesday rejected the claims of Congress leaders about alleged tampering of EVMs in some seats of Haryana. Congress had claimed that the different results were due to the different state of battery charge in the machines. Congress leaders claimed that complaints regarding EVMs have come from Hisar, Mahendragarh and Panipat districts. Congress candidates have lost in EVMs whose batteries were 99 percent charged. But Congress won among those whose batteries were 60-70 percent charged. Commission sources have reacted on this.

Jairam Ramesh raised questions

Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Tuesday that have you understood this conspiracy? Where there is 99 percent battery, BJP wins and where there is 60-70 percent battery, Congress wins. If this is not a conspiracy then what is it? Commission sources said that alkaline batteries are used in the control unit of EVM. he/she said that on the day of launch of EVMs, new batteries are inserted in the control unit in the presence of the candidates and they are sealed.

What is the connection with battery capacity?

Sources said that initially the battery gives voltage between 7.5 to 8 volts. Therefore, when the voltage is above 7.4, the battery capacity appears to be 99 percent. The use of an EVM reduces its battery capacity and consequently the voltage. Sources said that when the voltage goes below 7.4, the battery capacity shows from 98 percent to 10 percent.

What did the Election Commission source say?

It was told that the control unit works as long as the voltage in the battery is more than 5.8 volts. This happens when the battery capacity remains more than 10 percent and a warning to replace the battery appears on the control unit display. This is similar to the sign that appears in a vehicle when the engine is running on very little fuel left.

Congress raised questions on Haryana election results

Sources said the remaining capacity of the battery on the day of counting depends on the ‘mock voting’ conducted at the control unit, the actual voting and the initial voltage of the battery (8 to 7.5 volts). he/she said that generally, alkaline batteries have the property of regaining voltage to some extent when kept ‘switched off’.
