What happened! Maldives President Muizzoo’s tone changed, know why he/she started praising India

New Delhi : The tone of Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu, who raised his/her voice against India, has changed. Muizzu is on a 4-day official visit to India along with his/her wife Sajida Mohammed and his/her country’s delegation. Muizzu met with PM Modi at Hyderabad Bhawan on Monday. With the aim of deepening relations, both the countries on Monday signed an agreement on currency swap of 400 million dollars. This will help Maldives deal with issues related to foreign exchange reserves.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu also launched RuPay card in Maldives. Apart from this, a new runway was inaugurated at Hanimadhu International Airport and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations. During this time Muizzu was seen in a completely different style. After the bilateral meeting, Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu said that India is a major partner in the socio-economic and infrastructure development of Maldives. he/she said that India has stood with Maldives in its time of need. he/she said that I would like to thank Prime Minister Modi, the Government of India and the people of India for the generous assistance and cooperation given to Maldives over the years.

What did President Muizzu say on the agreement?

Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu said that I am grateful for the decision of the Government of India to provide assistance in the form of 30 billion Indian Rupees in addition to the bilateral currency swap agreement of 400 million US dollars. This will be helpful in resolving the foreign exchange issues we currently face. President Muizzu said that we look forward to concluding a free trade agreement with India. This will enable us to harness the full economic potential between our countries. With this, we will be able to increase Indian investment in various areas of tourism and development.

‘We were not against any country’

Earlier last month, Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu had denied any agenda of ‘India out’. he/she said the presence of foreign troops in his/her nation was a ‘serious problem’ for the island nation. he/she had said that we have never been against any country at any time. This is not to exclude India (India out). The people of Maldives were facing a serious problem due to the presence of foreign forces in their country. The people of Maldives do not want even a single foreign soldier to remain in the country.

Relations between the two countries had become tense

Relations between India and Maldives had been strained since November last year, when China-leaning Muizzu took over as the President of Maldives. Muizzu had asked India to withdraw around 90 Indian military personnel operating three aviation platforms gifted by the country. India had withdrawn its military personnel by 10 May. In their place, civilian personnel were deployed to operate the Dornier aircraft and two helicopters.
