New Delhi : The Indian Air Force has recently proved its capability to shoot down targets like Chinese spy balloons at an altitude of more than 55,000 feet on the eastern front amid the border dispute with China. In early 2023, the US government used a fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighter jet to shoot down a Chinese spy balloon over the ocean. The Indian Air Force was discussing the issue of dealing with the challenge posed by balloons that fly at very high altitudes. India had also discussed this matter with the US Air Force last year.

‘Hunted’ with Rafale fighter jet

Defense sources told ANI that the Indian Air Force had used Rafale fighter jets to shoot down a target such as a Chinese spy balloon in the Eastern Air Command’s area of ​​responsibility a few months ago. The Air Force used a balloon relatively small in size compared to the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by the US Air Force. he/she said the balloon was released into the air with some payload. It was then shot down using an inventory missile at an altitude of over 55,000 feet.

A similar balloon was spotted in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region of India and it is believed that the balloons are used for surveillance over a large area.

However, no action was taken against it till three-four days after it was seen. After this it went away. It is also believed that Chinese spy balloons have some kind of steering system. They can be used to stabilize your areas of interest. The force is also preparing its standard operating procedure to take action against such threats in future.
