Work stress and smoking are making the youth’s heart sick, experts told that heart surgery has to be done before time.

New Delhi: Working hours may be fixed at 40 hours a week, but the urge to move ahead, the lure of promotion, the thought of looking different from the crowd are causing heart diseases to the youth. According to experts, in Western countries the chances of heart surgery are less between the age of 40 to 50, but in a country like India, the heart of a large number of people at this age is getting so bad that even surgery is necessary. The stress of the youth increases this situation. When they smoke, the risk of disease doubles. Dr. Yusuf Jamal, cardiologist of GB Pant Hospital, says that the life of working youth is progressing amidst competition. They want to move ahead, want to stand out in the office, want promotion. Such people work more than 40 hours every week as per the guidelines. Most of the youth are living this habit of their own free will. They are kind of in blind risk.

Body physiology changes
Dr. Jamal said that compared to Western countries, we Indians have 10 times more risk of heart disease. When people smoke, the risk increases 10 times. Usually, when people are in a race to move ahead, they first feel stressed. Initially their sleep gets disturbed due to stress. If you don’t get enough sleep, your eating habits get spoiled. Routine life is affected. Often people eat more food and drink more tea under stress. Such people start becoming obese. Then the problem of hypertension arises. Along with this diabetes occurs. Overall he/she becomes a victim of metabolic disorder. The physiology of the body changes and the person comes at risk of heart attack.

Heart surgery has to be done ahead of time
Heart surgeon of Fortis Escorts Hospital, Dr. Z. S. Meharwal said that sitting in office for long hours, working on computer, doing night duty, sleeping during day, consuming junk food in food are making working youth heart patients. The lipid profile of such people gets spoiled. People with obesity and family history of heart disease are at increased risk. he/she said that in Western countries, bypass surgery at the age of 40 to 50 years is very rare. But in our country many cases of surgery occur between the age of 40 to 50 years. Even sometimes they come after 30 years.

Youth should take care
– Do brisk walking (fast walking) for at least 30 to 45 minutes daily.
– Maintain working hours as per the guidelines.
– Do not smoke cigarettes at all.
– If you are under stress, get treatment, do not consume too much tea or tobacco to avoid it.
– Take your diet according to calories.
