The fans had a lot of expectations from the team that reached India after defeating Pakistan in the Test series at their home, but it was deflated in front of Team India. The second and last match of the series is to be played in Kanpur. Just before this match, Bangladesh’s legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan announced his/her retirement. he/she told that he/she will say goodbye to Test after the home series against South Africa.

he/she could not take wickets in both the innings of the first Test played with India in Chennai. Even in batting, he/she failed to play big innings. Shakib Al Hasan has said that the Test match to be played against South Africa in Dhaka in October will be his/her last Test. Speaking to the media ahead of the Kanpur Test against India, he/she also said that the 2024 T20 World Cup to be held in June was his/her last T20 match for Bangladesh. The series against South Africa is still uncertain as Cricket South Africa has not given it security clearance even after inspecting the venue earlier this week. This follows unrest in Bangladesh in July and August, in which hundreds of people were killed. Shakib was an MP of the Awami League-led government, against which protests were organized. Shakib is facing difficulties after the Awami League-led government was toppled on August 5.

Shakib said, “I am available for the South Africa series, since there is a lot happening at home, so naturally everything does not depend on me. I have discussed my plans regarding Test cricket with BCB. Especially about this series and domestic series. I was thinking that this could be my last Test series. I have told (Bangladesh Cricket Board President) Farooq Ahmed Bhai and the selectors. If I get a chance and if I am able to play, my last Test will be in Mirpur. The board is trying to ensure that I can play and feel safe, and also that I can leave the country without any problems.”

If the South Africa series does not go ahead, then this Test starting in Kanpur from Friday will be their last Test.
