CTET is an exam conducted by CBSE on the instructions of the Central Government which is a mandatory teacher eligibility test before teacher recruitment. As per the provisions of subsection (1) of section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) prescribed the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for classes 1 to 8 through notifications dated August 23, 2010 and July 29, 2011.

The Act provides that one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any school is that he/she or she must pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which shall be conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with the guidelines of the NCTE. The Ministry of Education, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi.

2. How many attempts are there for CTET?
There is no limit to the number of times a candidate can attempt to obtain a CTET certificate. If a candidate wishes to improve their scores in the CTET exam, they can appear again as many times as they wish, as long as they are eligible.

3. What is the eligibility and application fees for CTET exam?
To be eligible for CTET 2024 December session, a candidate must be an Indian citizen and at least 18 years old, and must have at least 50 per cent marks in senior secondary or graduation in the subject they are applying for.

General and OBC category candidates have to pay Rs 1,000 for one paper and Rs 1,200 for both papers to apply for CTET December 2024. The registration fee for SC, ST and PWD is Rs 500 for single paper exam and Rs 600 for two papers.

4. What is the use of CTET exam?
Passing the CTET exam makes a candidate eligible to apply for central government teaching jobs. Such candidates can apply in schools like KVS, NVS, Army.

5. Is CTET valid for life?

​Yes, the marks and certificate obtained by a person in CTET are valid for life. The CBSE CTET information brochure states, ‘The validity period of the CTET qualifying certificate for appointment shall be lifelong for all categories.’

6. Is there negative marking in CTET?

There is no negative marking for wrong answers, and there is no penalty for leaving any question unanswered.

7. When will CBSE release CTET Admit Card?

CTET admit cards will be released on the official website two or three days before the exam date. Last year, CBSE released the admit cards on August 18.

8. Is CTET conducted twice a year?

Conducted by CBSE, this exam is held twice a year to determine the eligibility of CTET candidates for appointment as teachers in Kendriya Vidyalayas up to class 8.
