Who is the first Indian to become ICC chairman? Who all have held this responsibility


New Delhi. Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jai Shah will take over the reins of cricket’s biggest body, the International Cricket Council, at the end of the year. On Tuesday, 27 August, he/she was elected unopposed as ICC chairman. Jai Shah will become the youngest person to hold this position. The BCCI secretary will be the fifth Indian to lead the ICC. Before this, four legends have held this responsibility.

The discussions that were going on for the last few days are now over. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the next ICC Chairman. he/she created history by being elected to this post. Jay Shah will now be the youngest chairman in the history of ICC. he/she is ready to take over this responsibility at the age of just 35. Jay Shah will take over the post on December 1, replacing 62-year-old Greg Barclay. Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar were the Indians who led the ICC before this.

Jagmohan Dalmiya:

Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first Indian to make his/her mark in the ICC. Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya was elected ICC president in 1997. he/she remained in this position for three years. Jagmohan became the first Asian and non-cricketer to lead the ICC. Bangladesh got Test status during his/her tenure as president.

Sharad Pawar:

Sharad Pawar was the second Indian to hold the post of ICC President. he/she took over this responsibility in the year 2010. The former BCCI President remained on this post for two years. The journey from politics to the boss of the biggest cricket organization was not easy for him/her.

N. Srinivasan:

Former BCCI president and businessman N Srinivasan is the third Indian to become ICC chief. he/she got this responsibility on 26 June 2014. Srinivas’ tenure as ICC President was very short. he/she had to step down from the post in 2015 after Shashank Manohar was nominated as ICC chief.

Shashank Manohar:

The longest-serving Indian in the ICC was Shashank Manohar. In November 2015, he/she was appointed the chairman of the ICC in place of Srinivasan. On June 30, 2020, he/she resigned from his/her ICC post.

Jay Shah:

Current BCCI secretary Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new chairman of the ICC on 27 August 2024. he/she will take charge on 1 December 2024.
