Malayalam actress Sonia Malhar expressed her pain over exploitation, narrated her ordeal

Malayalam actress Sonia Malhar has told a painful experience of the early days of her film career in an interview. Recalling an incident of the year 2013, Sonia told the media that she was exploited during a shooting in Thodupuzha. At that time she was new to acting. According to her, when she was returning from the washroom, a younger actor suddenly touched her in a wrong way. She also mentioned another incident when she was removed from the movie. Actress Sonia Malhar told that this shooting was organized by the production controller. Which took place in a place that looked like a warehouse. She became restless due to that incident. According to her, she got nervous and started crying due to the actor’s wrong behavior. However, when the actor saw her doing it, he/she immediately apologized. ‘I was new. he/she touched me in a wrong way. When I expressed that I was not comfortable and even refused to act in the film, he/she replied that he/she liked me and reacted as if he/she was proposing to me. I got scared and pushed him/her away. But later he/she apologized.

Sonia Malhar was promised Rs 3 lakh but was not given a single rupee

The actress told ‘Matrubhoomi’ how she had to suffer a lot in her personal and professional life due to not being able to fulfill the demands of the other person. Sonia told, ‘I was promised 3 lakh rupees for 30 days of shooting of a film. But I did not get a single rupee. The film was directed by someone associated with the Raj Bhavan. And I had the lead role in it. The producer was my friend.’

Sonia Malhar exposed the casting couch

The actress said that her father had passed away and she did not have money to pay the rent. There was no formal contract either. ‘If I was ready to compromise, I could have got more opportunities.’ Apart from this, the actress also mentioned the incident when she was promised a role in a film and she went to Palakkad after spending Rs 7000 on petrol. But later some other heroine was taken and later that movie was cancelled.

Sonia Malhar was removed from the film

Sonia said, ‘I went to Palakkad to work in the film Vasavadatta by spending seven thousand rupees on petrol. I was shown in the first poster of the film. The story was also good. One day the director called and said that Sonia you are not right for this movie. Inaya was cast in my place. But later it was known that she also left that movie and the film was never made.’
