Bangladesh in the driving seat against Pakistan, Mushfiqur Rahim dominates on the fourth day


New Delhi. On the basis of Mushfiqur Rahim’s marathon innings of 191 runs, Bangladesh has strengthened its position against Pakistan in the Rawalpindi Test match. Rahim, along with Mehdi Hasan Miraz (77), shared a record 196-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take the team to a big score. The Bangladeshi batsmen blunted the edge of the Pakistani pace attack. The visiting Bangladesh team put 565 runs on the board in response to Pakistan’s 448 runs. Mushfiqur, during his/her marathon innings of more than eight and a half hours, hit a six and 22 fours in 341 balls, giving Bangladesh a big lead of 117 runs in the first innings.

This is Bangladesh’s third-highest score outside home. Its batsmen foiled Pakistan’s plan of playing with four fast bowlers on a grassy pitch. Pakistan (PAK vs BAN), who declared their first innings at 448 runs for six wickets, lost the wicket of opener Saim Ayub early in the second innings. At the time of stumps, their score was 24 runs for one wicket. The team is still 94 runs behind Bangladesh. Abdullah Shafique is present at the crease with 12 runs while captain Shan Masood is present at the crease with nine runs.

Pakistan decided to play this match without a specialist spinner. Off-spin all-rounder Salman Ali Agha (41) bowled the most overs. Mushfiqur scored easily against him/her. This bowler conceded 136 runs. Salman was unlucky that he/she could not be included among the wicket-taking bowlers. Because when Mushfiqur was on 150 runs, Babar Azam dropped his/her catch at leg slip. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan also failed to catch Mehdi. At that time he/she was batting on 52 runs.
