Railways or Delhi Government? Who is responsible for waterlogging in Zakhira underpass in Delhi

New Delhi: After a few hours of rain in Delhi, many areas face the problem of waterlogging. After the rain on Tuesday morning, several feet of water accumulated in Delhi’s Zakhira underpass and within no time the underpass was submerged in water. Today, Delhi Water Minister Atishi has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav regarding the waterlogging under the Zakhira underpass. Through her letter, she has asked the Railway Minister to find an immediate solution to this problem. Along with this, she has held the Railways responsible for the waterlogging.

Atishi wrote a letter to the Railway Minister and made a demand

Delhi Water Minister Atishi wrote that I would like to draw your attention to the serious problem of waterlogging in Delhi’s Zakhira underpass. I have received information that the main reason for this waterlogging is the water coming from the Indian Railways area not being able to drain out without any drain or bridge. This water is not able to go directly to the MCD drain or Najafgarh drain. In the absence of this, water fills the underpass carrying garbage and debris from the surrounding areas. To solve this problem, it was earlier decided that the Railways would construct an additional drain and bridge on its land, 50% of the cost of which would be borne by the PWD of the Delhi Government. As per this agreement, the PWD of the Delhi Government deposited its share of Rs 2.70 crore on July 18, 2023. However, no bridge has been built till date and the situation remains as it is.

People are troubled due to waterlogging

Let us tell you that today there was moderate rain in Delhi, so about 2 feet of water accumulated in the Zakhira underpass from the railway track and surrounding areas. Due to which the traffic was affected and the police had to put up barricades to avoid accidents.
