Movie Review: ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba’ will raise your heart rate

‘What is love that does not cross the limits of madness, because relationships are maintained in a conscious state.’ Haseen Dilruba, who defines love with this intensity, is back with another passionate tale of love. The last time she came, one of her lovers Neel (Harshvardhan Rane) had to lose his/her life and the other lover and husband Rishabh Saxena aka Rishu (Vikrant Massey) had to give her hand. Here we are talking about the film ‘Haseen Dilruba’ starring Taapsee Pannu, whose sequel ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba’ has already been released on the OTT platform Netflix.

The story of ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba’

The story continues from the previous part, where Rishu, who had proved himself dead in the eyes of the police, has fled from the city with his/her love Rani (Taapsee Pannu) and is living a life of hiding in Agra. Rishu and Rani are living separate lives here hiding their identities to be together forever. They are trying to go abroad somehow. Meanwhile, both of them also find two new lovers in this new city. Rishu’s landlady Poonam (Bhumika Dubey) constantly pressurizes him/her to have a physical relationship, while the simple compounder Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal) is head over heels in love with Rani. However, Abhimanyu, who looks like an innocent lover, also has his/her own dark secrets.

On the other end of the story is the police, who are not ready to stop chasing Rishu and Rani. To avoid the police’s attention, both of them are never seen together, they send their messages to each other by writing Shayari at various places, but still the police catch their attention. In such a situation, when Rishu finds no other way except surrendering, Rani takes a big decision like marrying Abhimanyu to divert the attention of the police.

Now what turn does this decision of Rani bring in her life? Do Rishu and Rani unite? How does Abhimanyu take revenge for the betrayal he/she faced from Rani? All this will be known after watching the film.

‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba’ Movie Review

Writer Kanika Dhillon’s world of Rani and Rishu has already captivated people. This time too, the mysterious journey of the characters keeps you hooked for a long time. The tight screenplay, red and dark color palette, ‘pulp fiction’ style treatment, one-liners quoted by fictional writer Dinesh Pandit and a great background score under the austere direction of Jayaprad Desai maintain the suspense of the film.

However, later, after Rishu’s secret is revealed to Abhimanyu, the story slows down. The khichri that is cooked after that is not as tasty. The climax is not as strong this time as it was last time. Abhimanyu’s character is interesting, but there is a lack of continuity in it. Similarly, Jimmy Shergill’s character is proved to be useless by saying big things about him/her in the beginning.

Talking about acting, Taapsee Pannu once again strikes the screen like a lightning bolt as a killer Haseena Rani. Vikrant Massey has fewer shades this time, but he/she has done his/her job honestly. Sunny Kaushal impresses as a lover with a deep secret but with an innocent face, but his/her psycho aspect does not come to the fore. Jimmy Shergill is natural as always. Bhumika Dubey, on the other hand, is memorable.

Talking about music, the song ‘Ek Haseena Thi…’ has been used well as per the story. Overall, this film is watchable despite some weaknesses in the second half.

Why watch- If you are fond of suspense-thriller and your name is registered among the lovers of ‘Haseen Dilruba’ then you must watch this movie at least once.
