IPL 2025: Fierce debate between Shahrukh and Ness Wadia, this time IPL auction will be explosive, there is also a dispute over impact player


New Delhi. The next season of IPL is going to be explosive and its signs have already started coming. IPL owners met BCCI officials on Wednesday. During this time, opinions were divided on many issues ranging from the next IPL mega auction to the impact player rule. There was even a debate between KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan and Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia regarding the mega auction.

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is to be held next year. A mega auction is to be held before the 18th season of this T20 league. The BCCI had held a meeting at its headquarters to discuss this. In a release issued here after the meeting, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, ‘The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday held a constructive dialogue with the owners of 10 franchises on various topics related to the upcoming season of the IPL.’

Jay Shah said, ‘The franchise owners presented feedback on player rules and other business aspects including central merchandising, licensing and gaming. The BCCI will now place these recommendations before the IPL Governing Council during further deliberations before framing the IPL player rules.’

Among the team owners or co-owners who attended the meeting were Shah Rukh Khan from Kolkata Knight Riders, Kavya Maran from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ness Wadia from Punjab Kings, Sanjiv Goenka from Lucknow Super Giants along with his/her son Shashwat. Also present was Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals. There was a heated debate between Ness Wadia and Shah Rukh Khan on the issue of whether the mega auction should take place or not. Parth Jindal, director of JSW Sports, which owns Delhi Capitals, said that the meeting did not yield ‘any real result’ as the teams stuck to their opinions on all the matters discussed.

Manoj Badale and Ranjit Barthakur from Rajasthan Royals, Prathamesh Mishra from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kashi Vishwanathan and Rupa Gurunath from Chennai Super Kings, Amit Soni from Gujarat Titans while the owners of Mumbai Indians participated in it online. Parth Jindal said, ‘No real result came out. It was just to know the opinion of all the owners. Everyone told their point of view and BCCI has listened to us. Now they will tell us all the rules. Hopefully by the end of August we will know the rules of the next season.’ (input language)
