Sarfira Review: Akshay Kumar’s powerful acting, this story of the dream of flying touches your heart

In this era of biopic films, director Sudha Kongara has also presented a film ‘Sirfira’ based on a real life character and incident. Akshay Kumar is the hero of this story full of dreams, determination and passion of a low budget airline started by former Indian Army Captain Gopinath. Akshay Kumar, who has shone in many biopics and films inspired by true events like ‘Padman’, ‘Airlift’, ‘Rustom’, ‘Mission Mangal’, ‘Kesari’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ and ‘Mission Raniganj’, brings this inspiring and emotional story alive with his/her powerful performance. This film of Akshay is a remake of Tamil film ‘Soorarai Pottru’, in which Surya was in the lead role. he/she also received a National Award for this.

Story of ‘Sarfira’

The story begins in a thrilling manner, where Veer Mhatre (Akshay Kumar) along with his/her friend averts a plane crash by making an emergency landing, but they are arrested. From here the story goes into flashback, where Veer is the son of a school master in an interior village of Maharashtra, who always has a revolutionary thinking. he/she agitates to start a train in his/her village. he/she even joins the Air Force to uplift the exploited and backward class people of the society, but in the meantime his/her father dies due to illness. Veer, who has differences with his/her father, is hurt like a thorn in his/her heart that he/she could not see his/her father for the last time due to expensive air ticket. It is from here that he/she vows to start a cheap airline for the common man. But he/she is unaware that the path of his/her campaign is full of thorns.

Veer has to face the dark truth of bureaucracy prevalent in airlines. The biggest hurdle in his/her path is the airline’s shrewd tycoon Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal), who tries to bring him/her down at every step, but in this thorny journey of Veer, his/her wife Rani (Radhika Madan), who dreams of starting her own bakery, gives her unconditional support. Veer’s mother (Seema Biswas), his/her friends and villagers also support him/her in his/her difficult times. But is Veer able to come out of the labyrinth of red tape and fulfill his/her dream? ‘Sarfira’ movie review

This film of director Sudha Kongara is the story of the victory of the underdog of the society. Surya’s work in the original film was highly appreciated. Superhit films like ‘Ghajini’, ‘Singham’ and ‘Force’ have been made on Surya’s films. The first half of this film of Sudha progresses in a wonderful way, where the story captivates you with many twists and turns. But in the second half, the pace of the story slows down a bit. However, then the climax of this film takes you on such a flight, where you cannot remain without getting emotional. The story moves on the lines of ‘Those who try never lose’.

Sudha’s film, while fulfilling the dreams of the underprivileged, also comments on patriarchal thinking, class division and casteism. The film has many layers, but the emotional and inspirational layer is the strongest. However, the flashback is a bit confusing. In this film inspired by Captain Gopinath’s book, ‘Simply Fly’, Sudha succeeds in showing the conspiracies of bureaucracy in an exciting way. Talking about music, GV Prakash Air Kumar could have made the music stronger. The opening song also creates a disturbance in the story. Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography creates excitement, while the background music maintains the pace of the story. The film could have been made a little crisper on the editing table.

Akshay Kumar has won hearts on screen in the role of Veer Mhatre. he/she is blooming and open in every way. his/her character has many layers and he/she portrays all the emotions like enthusiasm, passion, helplessness, hope-despair, romance on screen in such a powerful manner. All this is so impressive that the audience gets immersed in the character and the story and wishes for his/her victory.

Radhika Madan has given a wonderful performance as Rani. She wins the hearts of the audience with her fiery character with a Marathi accent. Her chemistry with Akshay is the plus point of the film. Paresh Rawal has played the negative role of the evil airline tycoon Paresh Goswami in his/her own unique style, while Seema Biswas has done a commendable job in the role of the mother. The acting of actors like Prakash Belwadi, Anil Mange, Anil Chatterjee, Iravati Harshe is also memorable.
