New Delhi: An interesting incident took place during the hearing in the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice’s bench rejected the petition demanding reduction of the cut-off score for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The cut-off is 45 for the general category and 40 for SC/ST. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud told the petitioner, if someone cannot score this much, what kind of lawyer will he/she be? You are talking about reducing it. ‘Study brother, how will you become a lawyer like this?’ Reducing the cut-off will affect the ability of lawyers admitted to the bar.

What is AIBE exam?
Let us tell you that the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is an examination conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI), which law graduates have to pass compulsorily to practice law in India. This exam is for those law graduates who want to practice in Indian courts. The purpose of AIBE is to ensure that a person practicing as a lawyer has minimum legal knowledge and legal skills. After passing this exam, law graduates are given a ‘Practice Certificate’, which allows them to practice in Indian courts.

Chief Justice inaugurated the Multi Facility Center in the Supreme Court
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Wednesday inaugurated the new multi-facility centre inside the Supreme Court premises. Other judges and staff were also present at the ceremony held on the occasion. The centre is located in the main complex opposite UCO Bank near C-IN Gate. A Supreme Court source said that the centre has 68 rooms for lawyers, consultation room, stationery shop, medicine shop and waiting room for litigants or visitors with a seating capacity of about 50 people.
