Those studying medicine in UP are in luck! Now they will save lakhs, seat leaving bond is over

Seat Leaving Bond in UP Medical Education: If you are studying or thinking of studying from a medical college in Uttar Pradesh, then there is good news for you. You will be saved from spending lakhs of rupees from your pocket. Because the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to end the medical seat leaving bond policy in UP. This is no less than a big change for those pursuing MBBS, BDS or PG medical courses from UP, which was awaited for years.

What is Seat Leaving Bond?

Till now, if you left a medical seat, that is, if you left your studies midway for any reason, then you had to pay a hefty fine to the college from where you were studying. For MBBS/BDS, you had to pay Rs 1 lakh in UP government medical colleges and the full fee in private medical colleges. Whereas, there was a fine of Rs 5 lakh for leaving a PG seat.

Now the Uttar Pradesh government has removed this penalty imposed on students who leave medical studies midway. But, the ban on re-admission next year will remain. However, with this big decision, UP has become the second state to abolish the rule of Medical Seat Leaving Bond. MP has done this some time ago.

But… you will not be able to give NEET exam for a whole year

Director General of Medical Education, Kinjal Singh said, ‘Students who leave MBBS courses are already under a lot of pressure as they are leaving a bright career. They do so as a last resort and have valid reasons, including financial ones. In such a situation, the government thought it was not fair to take money from them as a penalty. Hence the financial part of the penalty has been abolished.’

Kinjal Singh had sent a proposal based on discussions with the National Medical Commission (NMC). he/she said, ‘The second part of the penalty will remain the same where a candidate will be barred from appearing in the NEET exam and counselling next year.’

MBBS Seats in UP: Medical seats will increase this year

Singh said, ‘We are gradually increasing the number of MBBS seats and colleges in UP. Our focus is to help as many candidates as possible become doctors. Therefore, it has been decided to abolish the financial penalty mentioned in the seat giving up bond in the interest of the students. But money is not important here. In such a situation, we need to sympathize with the candidate, keeping in mind that they are putting their entire career at stake by taking this decision.’

Uttar Pradesh currently has 9278 MBBS and 2070 BDS seats in more than 60 medical colleges. More than a dozen new medical colleges are expected to open by 2024 Well Candidates are expected to appear in counselling (UP NEET Counselling 2024). Inspections are going on. Then the number of MBBS seats in UP will increase to more than 10,000.
