Last month, when Brian Lara expressed the possibility of Afghanistan reaching the T20 World Cup semi-finals, many were surprised. Rashid Khan, the captain of the team that did this miracle, had promised them that he/she would live up to their trust.

Brian Lara’s words proved to be correct and Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the last match of the Super Eight using the Duckworth Lewis system. This team not only made it to the last four of the World Cup for the first time but also knocked out a giant like Australia from the tournament. “West Indies, India and England can make the semi-finals. My bet for fourth place is on Afghanistan, a dark horse. I haven’t seen the groupings but given the number of World Cups Afghanistan has played in the past, this team is on the path to progress and can make it to the last four,” Lara had told PTI in May.
