US Congress delegation meets PM Modi, congratulates him/her on becoming Prime Minister for the third time


New Delhi: A US Congress delegation met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today and congratulated him/her on becoming the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Along with this, the delegation strongly appreciated the success of the recently concluded general elections in India. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that the seven-member US Congress delegation led by Representative Michael McCaul, Chairman of the ‘House Foreign Affairs’ Committee, described India-US relations as most important. Along with this, expressed its strong support for further deepening the comprehensive strategic global partnership in all areas including trade, new and emerging technology, defense, people-to-people exchange. Other members of the delegation included former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Gregory Meeks, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Nicole Malliotakis, Amrish Babulal Ami Bera and Jim McGovern.

The statement said that the members of the delegation congratulated the Prime Minister on his/her historic election for the third consecutive time. According to this, he/she expressed deep appreciation for the comprehensiveness, fairness and transparency of the world’s largest democratic process recently concluded in India. The statement said that Prime Minister Modi highlighted the important role played by the consistent and bipartisan support of the US Congress in advancing India-US relations, which are based on shared democratic values, respect for the rule of law and strong people-to-people ties. he/she reiterated his/her commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations for global good.

Sharing a photo with the delegation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there was a very good exchange of views during his/her meeting with friends from the US Congress. The Prime Minister recalled his/her State visit to the US in June last year, during which he/she had the opportunity to address a joint session of the US Congress for the historic second time.
