New Delhi: The number of Indians killed in a massive fire in Kuwait has risen to 46 after one more worker died on Friday. Officials said the fire was caused due to an electrical short circuit in the guard’s room on the ground floor of the building. A total of 50 people have died in this fire. Most of the people died due to suffocation due to smoke while people were sleeping when the fire broke out in the six-storey building in Kuwait’s southern Ahmadi province at dawn on Wednesday. The building housed 196 migrant workers, most of whom were Indians.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah al-Yahya told reporters that one of the injured died overnight, taking the death toll to 46. Kuwait Times newspaper reported on Friday that three other deceased were residents of the Philippines and one deceased has not been identified yet. The fire department’s investigation team had said on Thursday that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit in the guard room of the building and spread to other places. The guard room is on the ground floor. Citing security sources, the newspaper said that when the fire broke out in the building, 179 workers were inside, while 17 were outside. Of the 196 people living in the building, 175 are Indians, 11 are Filipinos and the rest are residents of Thailand, Pakistan and Egypt. According to an official, most of the victims died of suffocation while trying to escape as the stairs were filled with smoke. he/she also said that the victims could not go to the roof because the door was closed.

An atmosphere of mourning at Kochi airport

Everyone was in mourning at the Kochi airport on Friday, and the families of the deceased were inconsolable, when an Air Force plane arrived from Kuwait with the coffins of the bodies of 45 workers. Central and state ministers, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, paid floral tributes to the coffins of the deceased. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who came by plane, also paid tribute. The police gave a ‘Guard of Honor’ to the deceased.

Punjab’s Rai was the sole breadwinner in the family

Himmat Rai, a resident of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, also died in Kuwait. he/she was the sole breadwinner of his/her family. Himmat Rai (62) was a resident of Salempur village in Hoshiarpur district and died in a fire in Mangaf, Kuwait on Wednesday. he/she is survived by his/her wife, two daughters and a son. his/her daughters are married. Rai’s wife Sarabjit Kaur said on Friday that her husband was the sole breadwinner of the family. he/she had left the country about 28-30 years ago and was working in ‘NBTC’ company in Kuwait to earn a living. The family said that he/she was a foreman in the fabrication department of the company.

Was working in Kuwait for 15 years

Praveen Madhav Singh (40) of Chhatripur, Varanasi is among the 46 people killed in the horrific fire incident in Mangaf, Kuwait. Singh had been working in a steel factory in Kuwait for the last 15 years. Praveen’s cousin Vikas Singh gave this information. he/she told that Praveen Singh’s father Jaiprakash Singh works in a coal mine in Jharkhand. Praveen’s wife Rupa and two daughters live in Varanasi. Praveen had talked to his/her family on a video call a day before the incident.

A young man from Jharkhand, Mohammad Ali Hussain, has also died in Kuwait. When Hussain was going to Kuwait 18 days ago, his/her family had not thought that they were seeing him/her for the last time. There is mourning at Hussain’s house in Hindpidi area of ​​Ranchi. his/her father Mubarak Hussain said that Hussain (24) was the youngest of his/her three siblings and he/she went to Kuwait from Ranchi to help his/her family. he/she had gone out of the country for the first time. he/she told us that he/she got a sales job there. We never thought that such a big incident would happen within 18 days.
