The case against him/her should be withdrawn… When PM Modi praised Payal Kapadia, Shashi Tharoor gave this advice

New Delhi: India’s Payal Kapadia brought laurels to the country by winning the Grand Prix – Jury Prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This was also appreciated by PM Modi. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has now reacted to this. he/she posted on Instagram and wrote – Modi Ji, if India is proud of her, then shouldn’t your government immediately withdraw the cases filed against her and fellow FTII students for protesting against the arbitrary appointment of an ineligible chairman by your government?

What did PM Modi say?

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has written this while retweeting that tweet of PM Modi. Actually PM Modi had praised Payal Kapadia on X and wrote – India is proud of Payal Kapadia for her historic achievement of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her work ‘All We Imagine as Light’. An alumnus of FTII, her remarkable talent continues to shine on the global stage, reflecting the rich creativity in India. This prestigious honor not only honors her exceptional skills but also inspires a new generation of Indian filmmakers.

Let us tell you that Payal Kapadia is the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix. She was a student of film direction at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) from 2015 to 2018. Kapadia and her classmates are facing legal challenges due to their protest against the appointment of actor-turned-politician Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of FTII in 2015. The agitation that took place at the Law College Road campus of FTII in Pune was one of the longest protests in the history of FTII, which lasted for 139 days. 35 students, including Payal Kapadia, abstained from classes and all other academic activities, whose next hearing is scheduled for June 26 in the Pune Sessions Court. Apart from this, the students have also been charged with rioting and wrongfully holding the then director of the institute Prashant Pathrabe hostage in his/her office.
