9 Baloch civilians forcibly abducted by Pakistani authorities in latest act of atrocities against the community

The leading Baloch human rights organization, Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), announced that in Pakistan’s continued retaliatory actions against the Baloch community, innocent students were arrested by Pakistani authorities.

Details of the incident were shared on social media platform X.

BYC said, “Intelligence agencies become vindictive after their security failures. The current increase in enforced disappearances of Baloch students is worrying, especially for Baloch students in Punjab and Karachi. Baloch students, whether they are studying in schools, colleges, universities and madrassas, are being forcibly disappeared and kept in dark dungeons.

9 students were abducted from Karachi on 16 October. Students are enrolled in various courses like Law, Science and Social Sciences.

BYC demanded global action against the continuing atrocities against Baloch civilians at the hands of the Pakistan government.

“We call on the global community, human rights organizations and media houses to pay attention to this alarming increase in cases of enforced disappearances, especially of students. Their families are in constant pain and fear for their lives. The Baloch nation must stand firm in the face of such violence and protest to end this cruel practice,” the post said.

Earlier on October 15, BYC had said, “Four Baloch youth were forcibly disappeared today, October 15, 2024. All are residents of Parom, Panjgur. he/she was in Karachi for hospital purposes and was staying in a hotel in Sadar. According to eyewitnesses, police and agency personnel raided the hotel and detained the boys, including the hotel manager, who were later released. Enforced disappearance of Baloch people has become common in Balochistan, due to which the genocide of Baloch continues. We urge the international community and human rights organizations to pay attention to such inhumane practices against the Baloch.

Balochistan is facing many current issues deeply rooted in its historical, political and socio-economic context.

The region is marked by reports of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and torture by state security forces. Activists and journalists who speak out against these abuses often face threats and harassment.

The Baloch people often feel alienated from political power and decision-making processes, with many local leaders advocating for greater autonomy and self-determination to address these grievances.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee or Balochistan Yakjehti Committee is a human rights movement founded in response to alleged state human rights abuses in Balochistan.
