Self help groups are making strong base
During the budget, the Finance Minister said that Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission has achieved remarkable success by organizing rural women into 81 lakh self-help groups. He further added “We will enable these groups to reach the next stage of economic empowerment through formation of large producer enterprises or clusters. Each of which will have thousands of members and will be managed professionally. They will be helped in supply of raw material and for better design, quality, branding and marketing of their products. Policies will be made for them which will enable them, like ‘unicorns’ and many successful start-ups, to scale up their operations to serve larger consumer markets.

Better than FD and other savings scheme?
The new savings scheme being started for women is much better than the post office FD, because where 6.8 per cent interest is being received on two-year FD, this option is giving 7.5 per cent return. Similarly, 7.1 percent interest is being received on PPF, 7 percent on NSC, 7.2 percent on Kisan Vikas Patra, which is less than this.
