5th class teachers will teach intermediate students, ‘Jugaad system’ will create big ‘crisis’ in UP!

There are less teachers in government inter colleges in Moradabad. In such a situation, the duty of basic teachers has now been imposed to ensure that the students complete their courses. On the instructions of the DM, the District School Inspector (DIOS) and Basic Education Officer (BSA) have also released the list of 25 teachers. These teachers will take one period daily in government high schools and inter colleges till the end of this session. This situation of shortage of teachers in government inter colleges is not only in Moradabad, but is similar in the entire state. There are many colleges where teachers have not been posted permanently. Somehow schools are being run by associating teachers from other colleges.

50% posts of teachers are vacant in UP

There are a total of 2,500 government high schools and government inter colleges in Uttar Pradesh. There are posts for about 22,000 teachers, but the number of teachers currently deployed is 11,900. Overall, about 50% of teachers’ posts are vacant. In some of these schools there are many teachers and in some the number of teachers is very less. Where there are no or very few teachers, schools are being run by attaching teachers from other schools.

resort to jugaad here too

State President of Government Teachers Association, Rameshwar Pandey says that Prayagraj’s Government Inter College Devghat Ghus started in 2022. But till date not a single teacher has been permanently posted here. The college runs from classes six to 12. But here a total of three teachers have been removed from different colleges and affiliated.

Similarly, Government Inter College, Pailani, Banda has 1,200 students. This is a very old inter college. But there is only one principal and three teachers here. Government Inter College, Chandan Nagar, Lalitpur has 850 students. Without a principal, only two teachers are posted in this college. Similarly, there are many colleges in the state, where there is similar shortage of teachers.

What will happen to basic schools?

On the duty of teachers of basic schools being imposed in Government Inter Colleges, State President of Primary Teacher Trained Graduate Association, Vinay Kumar Singh, says that there is a shortage of teachers in many schools in Basic also. Then will government teachers be put on duty there? Cooperation is two-way. Authorities should also pay attention to the quality of basic education.

Why is there a teacher crisis in Uttar Pradesh?

In fact, after the implementation of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), new government high schools and inter colleges are opening every year with the help of the Centre. Till 2010, there were about 1,000 government high schools and inter colleges in the state. After the implementation of RMSA, 1,489 new high schools and inter colleges were opened in 14 years.

The number of schools more than doubled. Teachers were not recruited in that proportion. The last recruitment of government teachers was in 2018, they have been given posting till 2023. Teachers are also retiring every year. This is the reason why there are only half the number of teachers required.
