5500 kg drugs caught in Andaman sea, biggest action of Indian Coast Guard, know the price

New Delhi: 5500 kg of methamphetamine drugs have been seized in the Bay of Bengal near Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This is the biggest action ever taken by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). Its value is said to be in crores. The drugs were packed in about 3,000 packets, each containing 2 kg of drugs. Six Myanmar nationals have been arrested in this case. It is believed that the drugs were to be sent to India and neighboring countries.

The Indian Coast Guard official further said that the trawler was warned to reduce the speed of his/her boat. Meanwhile, the pilot alerted the Andaman and Nicobar Command. Immediately, our nearby fast patrol ships headed towards Barren Island. On 24 November, the fishing trawler was taken to Port Blair for further investigation. We have arrested six Myanmar nationals from the fishing trawler. It is believed that the methamphetamine was destined for India and its neighboring countries. We have informed Andaman and Nicobar Police for joint investigation.

The biggest action ever
The defense official further said that the Indian Coast Guard has intercepted a large consignment of drugs, about five tonnes, from a fishing boat in Andaman waters. This is likely to be the biggest drug seizure ever by the Indian Coast Guard. More details are awaited. Earlier in 2019 and 2022, similar drugs were seized from foreign ships when they tried to enter Indian waters. The incident also reflects the ICG’s continued vigilance to safeguard India’s maritime borders.

Today in a coordinated sea and air operation, India Coast Guard has created history by intercepting a Myanmar fishing vessel, So Wai Yan Htu, with approximately 5500 kg of methamphetamine in the Andaman Sea. This major drug seizure is the largest maritime seizure in India’s territory, reflecting extraordinary coordination and vigilance.

Methamphetamine is primarily used as a recreational or performance-enhancing drug. It is used for intoxication and is very dangerous for health. This action of ICG has exposed a big drug racket.

Drugs worth Rs 700 crore were seized 10 days ago

Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS had seized 500 kg of drugs from Porbandar coast of Gujarat on November 15. Its value was said to be more than Rs 700 crore. Delhi NCB had received information about these drugs. After this, Delhi NCB with the help of Gujarat NCB, Coast Guard and Navy caught a boat in which drugs were hidden. This is not the first time that such banned drugs have been seized in Indian waters in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Similar narcotics were seized from foreign ships in 2019 and 2022 when they were trying to enter Indian waters.
