The report said these were the six states with the highest unauthorized immigrant populations in 2021. California (19 lakh), Texas (16 lakh), Florida (9 lakh), New York (6 lakh), New Jersey (4.5 lakh) and Illinois (4 lakh).

Guatemala and Honduras also have large illegal immigrant populations

The report said that in 2021, the population of unauthorized immigrants from other countries was 64 lakh, which was more than 9 lakh from 2017. Other countries with the highest number of unauthorized immigrants are Guatemala (7 lakh) and Honduras (5.25 lakh).

Between October 2022 and September 2023, 96,917 Indians were caught crossing the border into the US illegally. Of these, 30,010 were caught at the Canada border and 41,770 at the Mexico border. According to the USCBP, 1,49,000 Indians were detained while attempting to enter the US illegally between February 2019 and March 2023. Most of these people were from Gujarat and Punjab.
