5 Indian batsmen have scored centuries in less than 50 balls in T20I, SKY has done this feat 3 times


New Delhi. In the second match of the 5-match T20 series against Zimbabwe on Sunday, Abhishek Sharma played explosive batting and scored a century in just 46 balls. With this explosive innings, Team India, adorned with young players, won by 100 runs over Zimbabwe (India Vs Zimbabwe) and achieved a 1-1 draw in the 5 T20 series. Left-handed opener Abhishek hit seven fours and eight sixes in his/her innings and his/her strike rate was 212.76. You will be surprised to know that despite this excellent performance, Abhishek’s innings is not India’s fastest century in the T20I format.

The record for scoring the fastest century for India in T20 International is in the name of Rohit Sharma, who scored a century in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in the year 2017. Talking about Test playing nations, Rohit and South Africa’s David Miller jointly hold the record for scoring the fastest century in T20I. Both have achieved this feat in 35-35 balls. Miller scored a century in 35 balls against Bangladesh in Potchstroom on 29 October 2017.

Rohit Sharma: 35 balls (vs Sri Lanka, 2017)
Rohit Sharma likes batting against Sri Lanka a lot. The ‘Hitman’ made the highest score in ODI cricket history (264 runs, November 2014) against the Sri Lankan team. Three years later, on 22 December 2017, he/she scored a century in 35 balls in T20 against the same team. In this match played in Indore, Rohit scored 118 runs (strike rate 274.41) in 43 balls with the help of 12 fours and 10 sixes. The record for most centuries in T20I is jointly held by Rohit Sharma and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (5-5 centuries).

After Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav is the second player to score the fastest century for India in T20 Internationals, who scored a century in 45 balls against Sri Lanka in 2023. On 7 January 2023, in Rajkot, he/she scored an unbeaten 112 runs (strike rate 219.60) in 51 balls with 7 fours and 9 sixes.

KL Rahul: 46 balls (Vs West Indies, 2016)

KL Rahul may not be a part of the Indian T20 team at the moment, but he/she holds the record for the third fastest century (along with Abhishek Sharma) from India in the T20 format. On 27 August 2016, he/she scored a century in 46 balls against West Indies at Lauderhill. In this match, Rahul scored 110 runs in 51 balls at a strike rate of 215.68, which included 12 fours and 5 sixes. Rahul has scored two centuries in T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav scored a century in 49 balls in the match played at Mount Maunganui under the T20 series against New Zealand. On 20 November 2022, he/she scored an unbeaten 111 runs with the help of 11 fours and 7 sixes in 51 balls at a strike rate of 217.64.

Apart from these, India’s Rituraj Gaikwad (52 balls), Virat Kohli (53 balls), Shubman Gill (54 balls), Deepak Hooda (55 balls) and Suresh Raina (59 balls) have also scored centuries in T20. Raina was the first batsman from India to score a century in T20I.

Estonia’s Sahil has the fastest century in T20I
The record for scoring the overall fastest century in T20I is held by Estonia’s Indian-origin batsman Sahil Chauhan. he/she scored a century in 27 balls against Cyprus in June this year. In this match, Sahil scored 144 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 351.21, which included 6 fours and 18 sixes. Namibia’s Jan Nicole Lofty Eaton is second by scoring a century in 33 balls and Nepal’s Kushal Malla is third by scoring a century in 34 balls. Eaton achieved this feat against Nepal in 2024 itself, while Malla achieved this feat against Mongolia in 2023. After this comes South Africa’s David Miller, India’s Rohit Sharma and Czech Republic’s Sri Lankan-origin batsman Sudesh Wickramasekara. All three have scored centuries in 35-35 balls.
