The biggest clash of the year is going to happen between the five films ‘Stree 2’, ‘Khel Khel Mein’, ‘Veda’, ‘Tangal’ and ‘Double Smart’ which are releasing on the release date of Independence Day. Here is a report on the challenges faced by cinema people: In the last few months, only a few big films have been released at the box office. Due to this, there is a dearth of audience in the theatres. But due to the release of five films together on the coming Independence Day, the biggest clash of the year is going to happen. Yes, this time on 15th August, three Bollywood films Rajkumar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor’s film Stree 2, Akshay Kumar’s film Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham, Sharvari Wagh’s film Veda will be released. Apart from these, the Hindi dubbed version of Chiyaan Vikram’s Tamil film Tangalan and the Hindi dubbed version of Sanjay Dutt’s Telugu film Double Smart will also be released. If we believe the experts of the film world, then showing so many films simultaneously will be a big challenge for the cinema people. At the same time, every producer will try to get as many screens as possible for his/her film. In such a situation, there is going to be an interesting competition between the films and their stars in the coming days.

The release date of 15th August has been lucky for Bollywood films. During this time, not only the children’s exams are over, but there are also long holidays.

-Rajkumar Mehrotra, GM, Delight Cineplex

‘We have to take advantage of the long weekend’

For the past few months, films are not being released at the box office. But now so many films are being released simultaneously. Expressing surprise at the clash of five big films of Bollywood and South cinema on 15 August, Rajkumar Mehrotra, General Manager of Delight Cineplex in the capital, says, ‘Films were not being released for many months and now five films are being released simultaneously.’ When we asked Mehrotra why everyone wants to release their film on 15 August? In response to this, he/she said, ‘The release date of 15 August is always considered lucky for Bollywood films. During this time, not only children’s exams are over, but there are also long weekends due to festivals. That is why many film makers want to release their films on this release date.’

Earlier when this clash was announced, everyone thought that some films would get postponed. But now all the films are releasing.

-Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst

‘Some films were expected to be postponed’

Film industry experts believe that there is no problem even if two films clash during festivals. But if there is a clash of more films then it becomes difficult for both cinema and film makers. Producer and film business analyst Girish Johar is surprised by the clash of five big films on 15th August. he/she said, ‘Earlier when this clash was announced, everyone thought that some films will get postponed. But now all the films are coming. Of course it will not be easy for cinema makers to give screens to so many films and there will be a tussle among film distributors for more screens. However, the audience is not much affected by the release of so many films. For them the content of the film is the most important. The film which has power will be watched by more audience. On the other hand, the one which is weak will automatically be left behind in the great competition.’

‘The decision will be made in the court of the people’

Cinema owners were troubled for a long time because they had a shortage of films. That is why they had to re-release old films. But now with the festival season approaching, their problem is how to divide the screens among so many films releasing simultaneously. When we asked Wave Cinemas Vice President Yogesh Raizada about this mega clash on Independence Day, he/she said, ‘With the release of so many films on the occasion of 15th August, there is hope of the audience returning to the box office which has been deserted for a long time.’ When we asked Yogesh how screens will be arranged for so many films? he/she said, ‘Such occasions have come before as well when we have handled the clash of three-four films. However, every producer wants as many screens as possible for his/her film. But the real decision is in the court of the public. Based on the response received by the film, the screens also increase or decrease the next day.’
