443 wickets, 4 bowlers, mystery not being solved for almost 3700 days

New DelhiA team in which Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have more than 1400 Test wickets in their name and has not won a series against India for 10 years, then many questions will come to your mind. For the host team, which lost the first Test in Perth, the pink ball Test could be their last chance to change the script. However, due to Hazlewood not playing in Adelaide, the quartet seems to be breaking.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon – clearly one of Australia’s best bowling attacks ever, with an incredible 1,443 wickets between them. And yet, in the last 10 years, they have not beaten India in a Test series. These four bowlers played most of the matches of the 2018-19 and 2020-21 series and were disappointed every time. Australia defeated India in the World Test Championship final and the 50-over World Cup final, but the series win drought still continues.

There is hope from the pink ball

Adelaide and the pink ball Test will probably be the last chance for this Australian bowling line-up to turn the tables. They know the conditions well and have played much more with the pink ball than India. They will also remember the 36 all outs and try to take inspiration from it. However, they also know that India have Harshit Rana or Akash Deep as well as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, and if they bowl like Perth did, things will get worse.
In overseas conditions, a team has to perform at its best over a two-month period to win a series away from home. This is what India has been able to do for the last decade. And this is what will trouble Cummins and company. One thing is clear that the pressure is completely on Australia.

Perth overturned Australia’s mathematics

Perth was a very different situation for India. Australia had planned it in such a way that they would lead Brisbane 2-0 and India would be demoralized. However, the Perth encounter has left them stunned. And Adelaide, as I said, is their only chance. Another defeat, and India will know that the series is just around the corner. Mentally, the Australian team will be more hurt and a comeback will be almost impossible.

The pink ball test is a big one for Australia. While India now has room to manoeuvre, Australia has geared up. They can’t afford another failure, and that’s why it will be all about pressure. Can the bowling unit step up and withstand the pressure in Adelaide? Can they push the Indian batsmen twice and ensure that their own weak batting gets some support? Can they breach the defense of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul? Can Stark come up with something special? India knows that the wall of the host team is becoming weak. The cracks have appeared and without Hazlewood Australia could fall apart.
