37 years ago, 3 balls, 3 wickets, 3 bowled, neither happened before nor will probably happen again.

New DelhiThe nature of the picture related to any date makes us realize how special that date is. October 31 is also a similar date when a hat-trick was taken for the first time in ODI cricket and the bowler was Chetan Sharma. Chetan had achieved this feat against New Zealand in India’s last group match played in Nagpur in the 1987 World Cup. he/she had registered his/her name in the record book by sending three legendary New Zealand batsmen to the pavilion on the last three balls of the sixth over.

Chetan Sharma completed his/her hat-trick by dismissing Kane Rutherford, Ian Smith and then Evan Chatfield. Rutherford was out after scoring 26 runs while Smith and Chatfield could not even open the account. The special thing about Chetan’s hat-trick was that he/she clean bowled all three New Zealand batsmen.

Different wicket fell on every ball

Today, when Network 18 congratulated Chetan Sharma for this achievement and asked how are you feeling, it has been 37 years since the hat-trick was completed. So Chetan ji told that the memories of the hat-trick are still fresh in his/her mind. Chetan further told that first Ken Rutherford’s middle stump went flying out, then Ian Smith’s off stump went flying out and finally Chatfield’s leg stump went flying out and history was made.

The race to score a hat-trick has begun

Chetan Sharma’s hat-trick was the first hat-trick taken by any Indian bowler in World Cup history, which greatly inspired the young bowlers. After Chetan, Kapil Dev, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav also took hat-tricks in ODIs, in which Kuldeep achieved this feat twice in his/her career. Mohammed Shami is the only Indian bowler after Chetan Sharma to take a hat-trick in the ODI World Cup. Shami achieved this feat against Afghanistan during the 2019 World Cup, where he/she dismissed Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in three consecutive balls, reminiscent of Chetan Sharma’s historic moment.
