Ministry of Railways is undertaking development work for 35 hydrogen fuel cell based trains for various heritage and hilly routes at a cost of Rs 2800 crore in the budget 2023-24. The Ministry of Railways has been allocated Rs 2,40,000 crore as Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) for capital expenditure during 2023-24. This includes Rs 1,85,000 crore under capital, Rs 45,000 crore under Railway Safety Fund and Rs 10,000 crore as contribution to the National Rail Safety Fund.

31,850 crore allocated out of gross budgetary support

A total of Rs 31,850 crore has been allocated out of the gross budgetary support for the plan head ‘New Lines’ for 2023-24. Sector-wise fund allocation for new lines has been done for 2023-24. Under this, 1234.95 crore to Central Railway, 432.95 crore to Eastern Railway, 11617.30 crore to Northern Railway, 792.00 crore to North Eastern Railway, 6591.00 crore to Northeast Frontier Railway, 1158.15 crore to South Railway, 819.50 crore to South Central Railway, South Eastern Railway 14.90 crore, Western Railway 1011.70 crore, East Central Railway 1518.02 crore, East Coast Railway 1984.00, North Central Railway 2.13 crore, North Western Railway 861.65 crore, South East Central Railway 389.00, South Western Railway 1408.35 and West Central 2014.40 crore Have done

The introduction of new trains is a part of the regular daily operations of the Railways. Plan for 2023-24 A provision of Rs 13,150 crore has been made out of gross budgetary support for apex customer facilities.
