New Delhi. The defeat of the Indian cricket team in Australia has created an uproar. Test team captain Rohit Sharma is being heavily criticized. Jasprit Bumrah, who took over the responsibility of captaincy in his/her place, is injured. Now there is talk between the selectors and Team India coach Gautam Gambhir about finding an alternative to Bumrah. If reports are to be believed, chief selector Ajit Agarkar wants to make Rishabh Pant the next vice-captain while Gambhir is putting forward the name of young Yashasvi Jaiswal.

In the recent BCCI review meeting held in Mumbai, many issues were discussed, including the selection of the future Indian captain in Test and ODI cricket. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy came under criticism during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. he/she told the selectors that until the board appoints his/her successor, he/she will remain the captain. A new report in Dainik Jagran revealed that the selection committee led by coach Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar could not agree among themselves on the captaincy option of Rohit.

On Sunday, the national daily reported that Rohit told the selectors that ‘he/she will remain the captain until the board chooses the next captain.’ 37 year old Rohit Sharma said that he/she will support whoever will be made the captain in his/her place. After this it was decided that Rohit Sharma will remain the ODI captain till the Champions Trophy and after the tournament the selectors will decide on his/her future.

A new report in Dainik Jagran on Monday said that during the review meeting, there was also discussion on making Jasprit Bumrah the captain after Rohit. The need for a strong vice-captain to manage the fast bowler’s workload was also considered. The selectors suggested making Rishabh Pant the next vice-captain in Test cricket, while Gambhir supported Yashasvi Jaiswal.
