20 cigarettes a day reduces life span by 13 years, electronic cigarettes also have a bad effect on health

New Delhi: Tobacco consumption makes people addicted to it. First it makes them sick and finally there is the risk of death. Statistics show that every year 1.35 million people die in the country due to tobacco consumption. The average life expectancy of those who smoke 20 cigarettes daily is reduced by 13 years and 23 percent of them do not reach the age of 65. WHO’s South East Asia Regional Director Saima Wazed said that this year’s theme is to protect children from the interference of the tobacco industry. PSRI Institute of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Director Dr. GC Khilnani said that this year’s theme is to protect children from the habit of tobacco. This is really important because 9 out of 10 smokers have smoked their first cigarette before the age of 18. By the time they understand its side effects, they have become addicts.

Tobacco is a cause of cancer

Dr. Ullas Batra, Oncologist at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center, said that tobacco in any form can cause cancer, including organs like mouth, throat and lungs as well as stomach, pancreas, kidney and urinary bladder. Chewing tobacco can cause cancer of the head and neck, especially mouth, while smoking can cause lung cancer. he/she said that as a pulmonologist, I see all the diseases or problems of tobacco and smoking in my patients. Still people are not able to quit tobacco. Therefore, it is important to focus on youth and school children. It is important to make them aware. Despite advertisements against tobacco, there is no major reduction in it. We should stop our children from starting tobacco consumption. The only solution to this is to prevent the consumption of the first cigarette (or electronic cigarette).

Electronic cigarettes are also dangerous!

Dr Khilnani said that electronic cigarettes (banned in India), which are promoted as a help in quitting the habit of smoking, actually increase the addiction. In European countries, 12.5 teenagers are consuming electronic cigarettes and the same is true for middle and high school children in America. Addiction to electronic cigarettes (vaping) is increasing rapidly among the youth. To deal with vaping, Mothers Against Vaping, a joint front of concerned mothers, organized a program in Delhi. The purpose of which was to save the next generation from new addictions. In this, mothers from different areas took a pledge to save children from the interference of the global tobacco industry.

Clinical psychologist Dr. Bhavana Barmi said that children are easily addicted to attractive electronic addictions like e-cigarettes. The main reason for this is the packaging and advertising policy adopted by the manufacturers of these modern devices. Sharda University has claimed a successful clinical trial in collaboration with Nanoved Research Foundation. A trial based on nanotechnology led by Sharda University researchers like Dr. Deepak Bhargava, Dr. Vidyadevi Chandavarkar and Dr. Mithilesh Mishra has claimed that smokers can be protected by reducing the level of carbon monoxide in their lungs. Curcumin, an ingredient made from turmeric, has been used in this formula, which is effective in preventing diseases caused by smoking.
