20 BJP MPs missing during ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill in Lok Sabha! Now the party will take action

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is investigating the absence of about 20 of its MPs during the division of votes on the introduction of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Sources said that BJP had issued a whip asking all its members to be present in the House, but the party leadership is unhappy with the absence of so many MPs. However, sources also said that many MPs had already informed about their absence due to personal and work-related reasons. But notices can be sent to those MPs who did not inform.

A senior leader said, ‘We are definitely investigating the reasons behind his/her absence. Some had real reasons.’ Sources said that some MPs including Union Minister CR Patil were busy in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public program in Rajasthan. he/she said that four to five MPs from BJP’s allies were also not present during the voting. he/she said that this is also being looked into.

‘One Nation, One Election’ bill will be sent to JPC

The government on Tuesday introduced the bill providing for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country in the Lower House amid strong opposition from opposition parties. The government said it will be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for comprehensive deliberations.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and the related ‘Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ in the Lower House, providing for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country. Which was strongly opposed by the opposition parties.

269 ​​votes were cast in favor of the bill, while 198 votes were cast against it.

After this, Meghwal also introduced the ‘Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ after the consent of the House by voice vote.
