14 by 6… This figure of Congress increased its seats by 47, see which states gave the most blessings

New Delhi: The Congress party proved to be the biggest winner in this Lok Sabha election. The Congress party has won 53 new seats this time, but it has also lost six seats from 2019. In this way, the Congress party has made a net gain of 47 seats. It had won a total of 52 seats in 2019 which has now increased to 99. That is, an increase of 90.38 percent. If we look at the performance of the Congress in the 2019 vs 2024 Lok Sabha elections, these five big things come to the fore.

Benefit in 14 states, Congress seats decreased in 6

Congress’s seats increased in a total of 14 states. Among them, it made huge gains in Maharashtra (12), Rajasthan and Karnataka (8-8), Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana (5-5). On the other hand, it also got help from states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Lakshadweep, Chandigarh, Manipur. There were six states where Congress suffered a loss, but only by one seat each. This list includes Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

These 5 changes in the result of 2024 as compared to 2019

1. Congress improved its strike rate in direct competition with BJP
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress had a direct contest with BJP on 190 seats. Out of these seats, Congress won only 15 seats with a strike rate of just 8%. This time in the 2024 elections, Congress improved its strike rate from 8% to 28%. It won 61 out of a total of 214 seats in direct contests with BJP.

2. Setback after setback for BJP
In 2019, the BJP had 303 seats out of the NDA’s total 352 seats, i.e. an 86% share in the alliance. It had a majority on its own. Now the BJP has 240 seats out of the NDA’s 290 seats, i.e. a little less than 83%. It does not even have a majority on its own.

3. Big setback for BJP in top 5 states
The BJP suffered significant losses in four of the five states with the highest number of Lok Sabha seats. Its tally fell from 62 to 33 in Uttar Pradesh (80 seats), from 23 to 10 in Maharashtra (48), from 18 to 12 in Bengal (42) and it failed to open its account in Tamil Nadu (39). In fifth place is Bihar, where the BJP had won 17 seats in 2019 but this time it suffered a loss of 5 seats. In Bihar, the NDA won 30 out of 40 seats.

4. Congress improved its position in the Northeast
The BJP had expanded extensively in the Northeast in recent years, but in this election the party also suffered a setback here. Both the seats in Manipur went to the Congress’s account, the only seat in Nagaland and 1 out of 2 seats in Meghalaya went to the Congress’s account. But the BJP retained 9 seats in Assam and 2-2 seats in Arunachal and Tripura.

5. Congress improved its performance on SC-ST seats
Last time, BJP had won 77 out of 131 SC/ST seats across the country, while Congress had won only 11 seats. This time BJP’s seats decreased to 53, while Congress’s seats increased to 33.
