13 thousand weapons looted in Manipur in 15 days, Home Ministry is making efforts to restore peace

New Delhi: On the instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to start a free movement from March 8 in Manipur, free movement could not be started in the state on the sixth day after the violent protests in the cookie dominated area Kangpokpi on March 8. The Ministry of Home Affairs is trying to end this ethnic conflict between Metai and the Cookie community in the state through its advisor AK Mishra. But at the moment, success is not being felt.

Thousands of weapons surrender

Meanwhile, President’s rule was imposed in the state from February 13 after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned. On February 20, Governor Ajay Bhalla appealed to the people to collect the weapons recovered by the state administration in the robbery and other ways, there will be no action on them. From 20 February to 6 March, 13 thousand 123 weapons and ammunition were deposited in the state. All these were deposited by the people of Maetai and Cookie community. Most of these weapons were with Maetai. These included 991 rifles, pistols and other weapons, 366 hand grenades, 230 bombs, 10 IEDs and 11,526 bullets. All these were deposited from 11 districts out of 16 districts of Manipur.

The highest weapons accumulated in Imphal East and West district

Security agencies said that most of these weapons and ammunition were deposited from Imphal East and West district. Where 9039 weapons, bullets, grenades, bombs and IEDs were deposited. On March 8, the cookie-dominated Kuki-dominated Congress in which the free movement was violently opposed by the Kuki-Juka community. Out of that district, 44 bombs, 10 grenades and 65 weapons were also deposited. Agencies say all these weapons and ammunition were weapons robbed by the local people from the police and para military forces. Those were deposited after the governor’s appeal. But the agencies say that the number of weapons looted in between is much more than this. Which people have not yet deposited.

Stress situation remains in Manipur

Here, in protest against the free movement, the cookie-the community, who are distributing pamphlets among the people of their community demanding the union territory for themselves. In which cookies are also asking people of their community to vote for this demand through pamphlets and also seeking answers in yes or no. In the viral video on social media, people in cookie dominated areas are throwing stones to close the road from the hill areas above. The police-administration is making a lot of effort to start free movement with the safety of the people. But it has not been successful so far. Police say the situation in Manipur is under control, but the situation remains tense.
