105 people died in Bangladesh, is one mistake of Jinnah, who created Pakistan, responsible for this?

New Delhi: It was March 1948, when Pakistan had just been formed. Then Pakistan’s founder and Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had reached Dhaka on a tour. On the question of Pakistan’s official language, he/she clearly said in a meeting there – I want to tell that the official language of Pakistan will be Urdu only. If someone misleads you, then he/she is the enemy of Pakistan. As far as the official language is concerned, it is Urdu only. A month before this, in February 1948, when a Bengali member in the Pakistan Assembly presented a proposal regarding the use of Bengali along with Urdu, it was strongly opposed. Liaquat Ali Khan, who was then the Prime Minister of Pakistan, said that Pakistan was formed on the demand of crores of Muslims of the subcontinent and the language of Muslims is Urdu. In such a situation, it is important that Pakistan should have a common language, which can only be Urdu. This one mistake of Jinnah and Liaquat gave birth to Bangladesh, which is again burning in the fire of reservation today.

Jinnah died due to lung disease, partition would not have happened

In the book ‘Recasting the Region’ by South Asian historian and author Nilesh Bose, it is said that some Bengalis were talking to Jinnah about the status of Bengali language since January 1948, but Jinnah ignored them. Jinnah died of lung disease on 11 September 1948. Famous historians Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre have written in their book ‘Freedom at Midnight’ that Jinnah was suffering from lung disease for a long time. he/she used to remain breathless for hours after giving a long speech. But, the then Bombay doctor R Patel who treated him/her had hidden his/her report in his/her cupboard. If this report had been known earlier, then perhaps the partition of India would not have happened. Then perhaps Bangladesh would not be burning in the fire of reservation today.

Bangladeshi Muslims ignored in Pakistan

A Dutch professor, William von Schindel, wrote in his/her book ‘A History of Bangladesh’ that soon after the creation of Pakistan, the dominance of the people of ‘North India’ came to the fore. Bangladeshi Muslims expected that they would play an important role in Pakistan due to being the majority population, but the Muslim leaders of ‘North India’ took the command of the country in their hands and they were sidelined.

Ignoring Bengali in front of Urdu became a controversy

Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Giri, Assistant Professor at Delhi University, says that the refugees who migrated from India to Pakistan after Partition spoke Urdu. Despite being a minority after the migration, they expected that their customs and traditions would dominate the local culture of Pakistan. On the other hand, the Muslims living in Punjab had control over the country’s civil institutions, army and agricultural land and emerged as the majority of the country. William Shindle said about the language that this was the reason for the initial dispute between East and West Pakistan. Very few people in West Pakistan knew the Bengali language. These people believed that Bengali was ‘influenced by Hindus’.

Only Urdu has the status of state language, Bengali Muslims are upset

With the formation of Pakistan in August 1947, it comprised two major regions- East and West Pakistan. 56 percent of the country’s population lived in East Pakistan, which spoke Bengali language. Urdu was declared the official language of Pakistan, due to which Bengali Muslims were very upset with this decision of the Pakistan government. At that time, people speaking Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pashto and local languages lived in West Pakistan. It also included Muslims migrating from India, who spoke Urdu, who constituted only 3 percent of Pakistan’s population.

Sheikh Mujiburahman accused of conspiring with India

Rajiv Ranjan Giri explains that the Bengali population of East Pakistan was extremely angry due to inequality and all kinds of discrimination, which resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh after the 1971 war. At that time, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who spearheaded the Bangladesh Liberation War, said that provincial autonomy is necessary to bring uniformity in the economic development of the provinces. he/she said that the population of East Pakistan is 5 crores, so its share in the country’s defense should also be in accordance with the population. Sheikh was accused of conspiring with India to break East Pakistan.

Bangladesh reservation protest

Yahya Khan’s defeat also became a big reason

When the 1970 elections were held under the government of Pakistan’s new dictator General Yahya Khan, his/her party Awami League won 160 out of 162 seats in East Pakistan and achieved a clear majority. However, Khan could not get a chance to form the government. Politically, it is believed that this was also a major reason for the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Pakistani army accused of killing 3 million people

The report of the Hamudur Rahman Commission, set up by the Pakistan government to investigate the separation of East Pakistan, writes about the atrocities committed by the Pakistani army that an estimated one to five lakh outsiders, West Pakistanis and patriotic Bengalis were killed. At the same time, according to Bangladesh government figures, the Pakistani army killed 30 lakh people. The Pakistani army committed genocide and sexual atrocities on women.

56 percent reservation was implemented as soon as Bangladesh was formed

With the formation of Bangladesh in 1971, a 56 percent quota system was implemented there. Out of the 56 percent reservation in government jobs, 30 percent reservation was given to the relatives of freedom fighters, 10 percent to women, 10 percent to people living in backward districts, 05 percent to indigenous people and 01 percent to disabled people. Like India, in Bangladesh too, government jobs are considered a permanent source of income. About 4 lakh graduates appear in examinations every year to get 3 thousand government jobs. In 2018 also, students took to the streets against 56 percent reservation. After this protest that lasted for 4 months, the government abolished the entire reservation.

This movement was sparked by the court’s restoration of reservation

In June last year, a Bangladesh court ruled in favour of reservation. Meanwhile, the Dhaka High Court said that all the reservations that were withdrawn should be re-implemented. Students have now come out to protest against this decision of the court. Students say that we will not accept 56 percent reservation. The 30 percent reservation given to freedom fighters should not be given. The argument given is that the heroes of the Bangladesh war have now grown old. Their children have also grown old. In such a situation, there is no point in giving reservation to their grandchildren. Anyone should be selected on the basis of merit in government jobs.

After India-Nepal, Bangladesh has the highest number of Hindus

According to the data of Pew Research, if we talk in terms of numbers, more than 100 crore Hindus live in India. More than 28 crore Hindus live in Nepal. After this, about 14 crore Hindus live in Bangladesh. Talking about Pakistan, less than 4 crore Hindus live here, which is even less than Indonesia, while Indonesia has more than 4 crore Hindus. Pakistan becomes important because at the time of India-Pakistan partition in 1947, the population of Hindus in Pakistan was about 20 percent, which has now decreased to less than 2 percent.
